Top Tips for Students Preparing for University

AD| Applying for university is a long and gruelling process, but so worth it in the end. You just have to make sure you’re sufficiently prepared and eventually it will all fall into place. Your sixth form or college should have plenty of advice for you but here are some additional tips to help you prepare.

Connect with Course Mates on Social Media

The sooner you start to make friends at your new university the better, as this will settle your nerves and help you feel more excited about the change. There might be different Facebook groups for your course or other tenants of your shared accommodation that you can chat to online.

Set up a Bank Account

You’ll need to set up a student bank account. Most of them offer a free overdraft option which will be handy for you, especially if you don’t intend to work whilst at university.

Learn to Cook

One great way to spend your summer before university is learning to cook. You won’t be able to live off takeaways when you’re on a student budget so you should try out some new recipes before you leave, especially if you’re moving into student accommodation.

Buy Your Essentials

One exciting aspect of going to university is buying all of your essentials and gadgets. You’ll need some bedding, basic toiletries and towels and a laptop if you don’t already have one. Have a look into getting yourself some money saving items like a railcard and an NUS card.

Do Some Research

Before you move, you’ll need to research the area so that you get to know the bus routes and where the local supermarkets are. What’s more, you may want to see if there are any jobs available that you could apply for so that you don’t have to worry about money too much during your time at university.
